Where did you graduate high school/college?

I graduated from Richland High School in 2010 and the University of Houston in 2015 with degrees in saxophone performance and music education.

How long have you been playing the saxophone?

I have played the saxophone for 15 years!

How many years have you taught at YSI?

My first YSI camp was the summer of 2012, so I've been involved for 6 years! Evan Withner and I have been joint owners of YSI since 2014.

What are some of your biggest musical accomplishments?

I was a semi-finalist in the Fischoff and Plowman Chamber Music Competitions, and a Finalist in the Coleman Chamber Music Competition.

Why do you love YSI?

I love YSI because it provides students and staff alike with an enriching, musical, and fun experience with the saxophone. We have truly built a community that supports each other in personal and musical growth. I love seeing our students leave camp with a fire about saxophone and a pride in what they have and will accomplish.

What are some other interesting facts/hobbies you have?

- I am a Marvel Comics fanatic (and thankful Thanos spared me) and enjoy archery

- I love spending time with my wife, Sarah, reading, hiking and playing games.

Final thoughts?

What are you doing this summer?

Evan Withner

Where did you graduate high school/college?

I attended Cinco Ranch High in Katy, Texas until 2010, then The University of Houston in 2015

How long have you been playing the saxophone?

I have played the saxophone for 14 years!

How many years have you taught at YSI?

I have taught for YSI for 6 years!

What are some of your biggest musical accomplishments?

I was a semi-finalist in the Fischoff and Plowman Chamber Music Competitions, and a Finalist in the Coleman Chamber Music Competition.

Why do you love YSI?

I love YSI because I have had the opportunity to see first hand how it impacts and changes the lives of saxophone students all over the state. Not only does it provide them with a fun and enriching musical outlet, a place to make great long-time friends, and a platform for building their sense of esteem and discipline, YSI provides an opportunity to grow middle and high school students’ identity, as musicians, saxophonists, and people.

What are some other interesting facts/hobbies you have?

I love cooking, exercising, reading. I also consider myself a boardgames aficionado.

Final thoughts?

I am so excited at the thought of you coming to YSI this summer. Always feel free to get ahold of me if you have any questions about anything!

Andrew Reinhart

Where did you graduate high school/college?

I graduated from Texas Tech University with my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and Saxophone Performance in 2016. I will graduate with my Master's Degree in Saxophone Performance in May 2018.

How long have you been playing the saxophone?

I have played the saxophone for 14 years!

How many years have you taught at YSI?

I have taught with YSI since the summer of 2014, so this will be my fifth summer.

What are some of your biggest musical accomplishments?

I have the fortune of playing in a highly successful and fun saxophone quartet called Mirasol Quartet. We won the Fischoff competition in 2015 and recorded a CD the same year! Being in this group has allowed me to pursue my dream of performing at a high level all over the country!

Why do you love YSI?

I love introducing young saxophonists to the magic of chamber music. Playing in a quartet has been my favorite part of being a saxophonist, and I want others to experience the same amount of joy that I have in that way!

What are some other interesting facts/hobbies you have?

I love to play golf, relax with family and friends, and cook! I am a huge Dallas Stars fan!

Final thoughts?

I look forward to seeing all of our students, both new and returning, this summer!

Sarah Woolhouse

Where did you graduate high school/college?

I graduated from High School in 2014 and will graduate from Texas Tech in December, 2018.

How long have you been playing the saxophone?

My primary instrument is the flute, BUT I can also play the saxophone. :-)

How many years have you taught at YSI?

This is my 3rd year on staff for YSI!

What are some of your biggest musical accomplishments?

I performed with the Texas Tech Symphonic Band at CBDNA Colorado in the spring of 2016, and performed with the Texas Tech Wind Ensemble at TMEA spring of 2017.

Why do you love YSI?

I love YSI because it’s a great opportunity for middle school and high school students to grow as musicians and be immersed in the saxophone community. There are a multitude of opportunities for the students to partake in - masterclasses, lead by various instructors that come from all over the state of Texas, individual quartets, and large ensemble playing. Every year that I have worked with YSI I have seen more and more students come out loving the saxophone more than they did at the beginning of the week. YSI is unique in that there is not many other summer camps available to middle and high school students that provides an experience of this caliber.

What are some other interesting facts/hobbies you have?

I love archery, playing the flute, hiking, traveling, and playing with kitties!

I have been out of the country on three separate occasions to Italy, London, and The Dominican Republic. My fourth trip is this summer to Costa Rica!

Final thoughts?

Sign up for YSI! You won’t regret it.

Jennifer Withner

Where did you graduate high school/college?

I graduated from Texas A&M University in December 2013 with a degree in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in Psychology

How many years have you taught at YSI?

This will be my first year officially being associated with YSI and I am pumped for all that is ahead this summer!

Why do you love YSI?

I love YSI because I think it is a great way for aspiring musicians to invest quality time in their understanding and application of music. The camp seeks to bring in very knowledgeable and experienced saxophonists who look forward to teaching younger musicians. Furthermore, YSI goes beyond just teaching saxophone skills. It intertwines activities that foster friendships and fun throughout the week.

What are some other interesting facts/hobbies you have?

I love to cook! Whether it's recipes I've made in the past or first timers, I'm usually up for the adventure. I also enjoy being creative with watercolors and other crafty projects. And last but not least, I love my city! Houston has so many fun elements to it, including amazing avenues for supporting the arts. One of my favorite summer activities is going to Miller Outdoor Theatre for their hodge podge of shows.

Any other fun or interesting facts about you?

I have a twin sister!

Final thoughts?

I am so eager to see all of the fun and learning that takes place this summer at camp. The staffers have really lined up an enjoyable week filled with music, teaching, fun and performance. I can't wait to see it all play out! (pun intended)
